Paul Piercy
Metallurgist/Executive Management
With a background as a metallurgist, Paul Piercy has held senior and executive management and technical positions with Rio Tinto in the 1980s and ’90s, including general manager of Hamersley Iron’s port and rail operations and Hamersley Iron’s Paraburdoo & Channar venture, as well as managing director of Novacoal and Kembla Coal & Coke.
More recently, he was managing director of WesTrac Equipment from 1997-2000 before playing an integral role in establishing WesTrac China as its chairman and CEO. Paul’s broad mining, industrial and equipment management/servicing experience also includes international roles in Africa, China, Papua New Guinea and the UK.
He is a non-executive director of Australian Resources Limited, chairman of APAC Coal and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Australian Institute of Management and Australian Institute of Company Directors, as well as being a practising consultant.
Peter Smith
Investment Consultant
A senior executive with an international bank for more than 32 years, mainly in Asia, Peter Smith established Australian Strategic Alliances almost 10 years ago to capitalise on that experience. He introduced his vast network of clients to Australian and Asian business opportunities, helping to foster effective working relationships in the region.
Peter has acted as a consultant to investors seeking mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and stock exchange listings and is on the board of several companies, including two in Malaysia and Singapore. Current international initiatives in development include a joint venture to mine and export base metals to China and medical technology enterprises in China and Malaysia.
Past assignments have included marketing consultancies for Clough Engineering, Wesfarmers, MRI, Unitract and Sealanes, and capital-raising for several resource-based companies.
Alan Erasmus

Alan Erasmus is a highly accomplished business leader, with a proven track record in strategic planning and building business relationships at the highest levels. Forward looking, he has accumulated more than fifteen years executive management experience, excelling in leading technical service provisioning into multinational corporations, team building and driving new business development in both private and publicly listed entities.
A well regarded mentor and advisor to boards and committees, Alan holds an MBA from Murdoch University, he is a commisioned military officer, a graduate member of the London School of Business and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
John Hebenton
Mechanical/Chemical Engineer
With more than 30 years international experience in turn-key process plant marketing, strategic planning, design, project management, construction and commissioning, John Hebenton has worked across a range of technologies including alumina production, copper and zinc beneficiation, gas cleaning, synthetic rutile production, waste processing, methanol production and iron ore smelting, pre-heating, sintering and pelletising.
He has been responsible for the management and company development of uranium, precious metals, base metals and silicon exploration projects in Kyrgyzstan and Australia and has consulted for the WA State Government on waste and energy technologies.
John has also conducted feasibility studies and project management on behalf of German and Finnish technology suppliers Lurgi and Outokumpu and has prepared business and marketing plans for various energy and solar projects around the world. He is a fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, a chartered professional engineer and on the National Professional Engineers Register and a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
